Ingredients

¾ cup white sesame seeds
¼ cup shelled peanuts
1 cup jaggery (molasses)
2 tablespoons margarine or butter

Directions

  1. Roast sesame seeds on a non-stick pan over medium heat, stirring until they turn yellow. Remove to a plate and leave to cool.
  2. Roast shelled peanuts slightly. Let cool then grind coarsely.
  3. In a deep non-stick pot, add butter or margarine and melt over medium heat.
  4. Add jaggery (molasses) and let it melt, stirring constantly until the mixture starts bubbling.
  5. Turn heat to low and add roasted sesame and coarsely ground peanuts. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon and turn off the heat.
  6. Pour the mixture on a large greased dish and spread it evenly. You may have to pat it with your palm after wetting it with cold water.
  7. When the dish is almost cold, cut it into diamond shaped pieces (vadiya).
